The BMW E90 M3 Sedan, E92 M3 Coupe, and E93 M3 Convertible left the factory with staggered tire configurations. Narrower 245mm fronts were paired with wider 265mm rears across all standard 18-inch and 19-inch packages. The limited edition E92 M3 GTS was the exception, running a wider 255mm front and 285mm rear on the same Style 359M wheels as the ZCP.

The original OEM tires for this platform have reached end of life and are no longer available. You do not need the OE-spec tires or even a BMW Star-rated tire to replace them.
For detailed wheel fitment information including offset recommendations and suspension clearance, see the E9X M3 Wheel Fitment Guide. For quick-reference wheel and tire combinations, consult the E9X M3 Wheel and Tire Cheatsheet.

TPMS Recalibration
The E9X M3 uses direct TPMS with physical pressure sensors inside each wheel transmitting to the vehicle’s RDC module at 433 MHz. BMW changed the sensor communication protocol in September 2009 for the MY2010 production cycle. LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) is BMW’s term for a mid-cycle refresh. The E9X M3 received its LCI update for the 2010 model year (build dates from 09/2009). Sensors from a pre-LCI vehicle (built before 09/2009) will not pair with an LCI vehicle’s RDC module, and vice versa. Verify sensor generation matches your vehicle’s build date when purchasing used wheels or that universal programmable aftermarket TPMS sensors are installed.
Models with iDrive
- Inflate all four tires to the target cold pressures shown on the driver’s door jamb placard.
- Start the engine while parked.
- Navigate: Settings / Vehicle Info → Vehicle Status → Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM).
- Select Perform Reset (or “Reset tire pressure”) and confirm.
- Drive at least 10-15 minutes above 20 mph to complete calibration.
”Single Hump” Models without iDrive (Stalk-Based)
- Inflate all four tires to target cold pressures from the door jamb placard.
- Start the engine while parked.
- Toggle the rocker switch on the turn signal stalk until the tire pressure icon and “RESET” appear in the instrument cluster.
- Press the BC button on the end of the stalk once to select.
- Press and hold the BC button for approximately 5 seconds until a checkmark or “RESETTING” message appears.
- Drive at least 10-15 minutes above 20 mph to complete calibration.
18” Staggered Recommendations
The 18-inch staggered configuration is the factory base setup for the E9X M3 and remains the most popular aftermarket choice. The OEM pairing is 245/40R18 front and 265/40R18 rear, producing a front overall diameter of 65.3cm and rear of 66.9cm. This front-to-rear diameter delta is approximately 2.4%. A popular aftermarket step-up moves to wider treads at 265/35R18 front and 285/35R18 rear. This pairing reduces the overall diameter slightly relative to factory but widens the contact patch front and rear without requiring fender work on the base street staggered fitment.
Extreme Performance Summer
Track days, autocross, and maximum dry grip for canyon runs. Extreme Performance Summer tires deliver the highest lateral capability but wear quickly on the street and require warm operating temperatures.
Prices updated June 2026. Actual prices may vary.
Max Performance Summer
The optimal choice for spirited street driving and occasional track use. Max Performance Summer tires balance dry and wet performance with reasonable treadlife and cover both daily and track duties without the replacement frequency of EPS tires.
Prices updated June 2026. Actual prices may vary.
Ultra High Performance All-Season
Ultra High Performance All-Season tires provide year-round capability without sacrificing meaningful dry performance. The E9X M3’s rear-wheel-drive layout makes all-season tires adequate only for light mixed-condition use. Anything beyond light snow demands dedicated winter tires on a separate set of wheels, an X3M, or an X5M. It must be true because it’s on the internet.

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus earns our recommendation. Both the Conti DWS and Michelin Pilot Sport AS lines are perennial favorites among consumers.
18” Square Recommendations
Square setups run identical tires on all four corners, enabling full front-to-back tire rotation to extend tread life and decrease understeer. The most popular square sizes are 265/35R18 and 275/35R18, pairing with 18x9.5” and 18x10” wheel widths respectively and center around the OEM rear treadwidth.

19” Staggered Tire Recommendations
The 19-inch staggered configuration was the factory option on the Style 220M upgrade and standard equipment on the ZCP Competition Package. Both used the same tire sizes: 245/35R19 front and 265/35R19 rear. The limited edition E92 M3 GTS used the same Style 359M wheels but with 255/35R19 front and 285/30R19 rear. This resulted in a wider contact patch on both ends, and uniquely, a slightly larger front overall diameter (66.1cm) than rear (65.4cm).
A popular aftermarket step-up on 19-inch is 265/30R19 front and 285/30R19 rear, pairing with 19x9.5” and 19x10.5” wheel widths respectively.

19” Square Recommendations
Running a square setup on 19-inch wheels is less common than 18-inch, primarily due to more limited tire selection. It remains viable for dedicated track configurations. The primary size is 275/30R19 on 19x10” +25 wheels.
| Tire Size | Diameter (cm) | %Δ from 265/30R19 |

| 255/30R19 | 63.6 | -0.9% |

Winter Tires
Dedicated winter tires on a separate set of wheels are the safest approach on a rear-wheel-drive car of this performance level. A narrower contact patch cuts through snow and slush more effectively than a wide summer tire. A popular E9X M3 winter setup is 18x9” square wheels at conservative offsets with 245/40R18 or 255/40R18. An 18-inch square setup on the OEM or winter-specific wheels with the OE size 245/40R18 front and 265/40R18 rear tires is also a viable alternative that avoids purchasing a separate wheel set, however, 265/40R18 winter tire selection is slim to none. Before purchasing 18-inch wheels, verify caliper clearance with the specific wheel and brake package combination.

Important Fitment Notes
Wheel Width: A 265/35R18 tire mounted on an 18x9.5” wheel will have a different sidewall stance and contact patch shape than the same tire on an 18x8.5” wheel. See the E9X M3 Wheel Guide for validated width-to-tire pairings.
Wheel Offset: Higher offsets on the front with street-oriented aftermarket coilovers require front spacers for inner strut clearance. Lower offsets push the tire outboard toward the fender and may require additional camber or fender rolling to fit.
Suspension Height: Factory ride height provides maximum clearance. A 25mm drop may turn a borderline rear fitment into a lip-contact issue, particularly for setups running +25mm or lower offsets on 10” or wider wheels.
Rear Tread Matching: When running a staggered setup where front-to-rear rotation is not possible, monitor rear tread depths carefully. The Variable M Differential Lock requires rear tires to remain within 2/32” of each other in tread depth. Replace both rear tires simultaneously when approaching wear limits.
Sedan vs. Coupe vs. Convertible: All three body styles share equivalent rear fitment clearance. The E90 Sedan’s rear fender flares appear more dramatic than the E92 and E93 as a visual consequence of the narrower sedan body requiring a more abrupt flare to cover the same wide suspension track. The underlying clearance envelope is identical across all three variants.

The E92 M3 GTS factory pairing (255/35R19 F / 285/30R19 R) is not listed above. Its front overall diameter (66.1cm) is larger than its rear (65.4cm), producing an inverted stagger ratio that falls outside the assumptions of this table. It is a valid OEM fitment on the GTS but is not a recommended reference for building compatible aftermarket pairings. On the GTS, BMW tuned the DSC just for those 138 vehicles.
