Quick-reference guide for matching wheel sizes to tire sizes on the BMW E46 M3 (2000-2006 global, 2001-2006 North American market). For detailed wheel fitment analysis, see the E46 M3 Wheel Guide. For tire diameter tolerance and FTM reset details, see the E46 M3 Tire Guide.
Position Out / In shows outboard and inboard offset change versus the OEM baselines: staggered rows compare each axle to its own factory baseline. The 8J ET47 front and 9.5J ET27 rear are used as the reference baselines. Square rows show both positions versus their respective OEM axle baselines.

Popular Proven Setups
Daily Driver
18x9” +30 to +35 — 245/40R18 - OEM+ Square. No fender modifications required, works on factory suspension, and unlocks full front-to-back tire rotation to increase tread life. A 12 mm rear spacer brings the rear out towards the fenders. Without spacers, the rear sits slightly tucked. The practical choice for owners who drive their M3 year-round and want to go square.
18x8.5” +35 to +45 F / 18x9.5” +20 to +25 R — 235/40R18 F / 265/35R18 R - Staggered OEM+. Fills the arches more aggressively than the factory Style 67 18-inch package without any fender work. Slightly more outward front track improves steering feel versus tucked factory +47 fronts. No modifications required on stock suspension. 19-inch setup runs same width and offset on 235/35R19 F / 265/30R19 R.
Aggressive Street
18x9.5” +35 — 265/35R18 - The definitive E46 M3 street-track setup. Wide enough to put serious rubber down, aggressive enough to fill the arches, and manageable enough that the only real requirements are -1.5° to -2.0° front camber (achieved by pulling the factory alignment pin). Requires a 5mm front spacer if running coilovers and an optional 12mm rear spacer for flush rear stance. This is the widest square setup that stops short of requiring fender work.
18x9” +30 F / 18x10” +25 R — 245/40R18 / 275/35R18 - Staggered flush street fitment. Maximizes the rear contact patch for RWD traction while keeping the front diameter-matched to a well-available size. Rear inner fender lip rolling is typically required depending on ride height. Offers excellent aggressive visual stance with the classic M3 staggered look. 19-inch setup runs same width and offset on 245/35R19 F / 275/30R19 R.
Track / Competition
18x10” +25 — 275/35R18 - The established club racing standard. Requires 5mm front spacer for coilover clearance, rear fender rolling, and -3.0° to -3.5° front camber via adjustable camber plates. The additional inch of wheel width and corresponding contact patch increase provides a meaningful improvement in cornering capability for dedicated track drivers. Adjustable rear lower control arms are recommended to properly set additional rear camber.
18x10.5” +22 — 265/35R18, 275/35R18, or 285/35R18 - Track Rat/Time Attack setup. 5-10mm front spacers are mandatory for coilover clearance. Rear fenders require pull or aggressive roll. Camber of at least -3.5° front is required. This setup is highly sensitive to tire selection and alignment precision.

Setup Considerations
Hardware: The E46 M3 uses M12×1.5 wheel bolts with a 60-degree conical seat. Always verify that aftermarket wheels use a 60-degree conical seat to match as spherical-seat lug nuts will not properly locate the wheel. Torque to 88 lb-ft (120 Nm) cold in a star pattern.
Hub Centricity: The E46 M3 uses a 72.6mm centerbore. Many aftermarket 5×120 wheels have 72.56 mm or 74.1 mm bores. Always use precision-machined hub-centric aluminum rings for any bore larger than 72.6 mm to prevent vibration and shear loading on the bolts. Plastic rings are not recommended for track use as brake heat can melt them and complicate wheel removal.
Spacers: The factory hub flange protrudes 9-10.5mm above the rotor face. A 10mm spacer must accommodate this entire protrusion within its internal recess to maintain flat rotor contact. If the recess is shallower than the flange height, an air gap forms and the bolts absorb all lateral loading. Measure before use and use 12mm or thicker spacers if in doubt.
Indirect TPMS / FTM: The “tire pressure monitoring system” uses no physical wheel sensors and is more accurately named Flat Tire Monitoring. There is no sensor transfer to move with aftermarket wheels. Recalibrate by pressing the FTM button for 4-6 seconds at Position 2 ignition, then drive a few miles. Recalibrate whenever tire pressures change or wheels are swapped.
DSC Diameter Sensitivity: Keep front-to-rear rolling circumference within approximately 1% of the factory baseline to avoid false DSC activation. Square setups satisfy this automatically. For staggered setups, calculate front and rear overall diameters and verify the delta.
Spare Tire: Surprise. There is no spare tire included. The spare tire well of the standard E46 was removed to accommodate the quad-tip exhaust routing of the M3. The vehicle ships with a BMW M-Mobility Kit: a 12V air compressor, liquid tire sealant (aka goo), and pressure gauge. Aftermarket Space-Saver spares are available or save the weight with an AAA Roadside Assistance membership.
Differential: The variable M differential lock is speed-sensing and clutch-based. Rear tires with more than 2/32” (1.6mm) of tread depth variance across the rear axle create uneven strain on the differential clutch plates, accelerating wear. Rotate rear tires before they reach significant depth differences from each other.
