Friday Finds - S1E3: E9X M3 Wheels

Welcome to Friday Finds — a weekly series where I share the most interesting wheel listings I’ve spotted on eBay. This week: E9X M3 wheels. If my wife asks, I was absolutely not shopping for more wheels.

E90 M3 ZCP at Laguna Seca — rimlist E90 M3 ZCP 6MT at the Laguna Seca Corkscrew on OE ZCP wheels.

The E9X M3 is the last naturally aspirated M3, a 414 hp V8 with an 8,400 rpm redline, and with the “OEM Exhaust Mod” it’s the best sounding car I have ever owned. I’ve been telling friends I’m selling it for the last five or so years to move to a P-Car, but it’s still sitting in my garage. There’s just something about BMW’s last non-turbo M3 that keeps me from letting it go.

BMW did something I find quite odd. The optional 19” Style 220M wheels were forged while the Competition Package 359Ms were cast. Why didn’t we ZCP owners get forged wheels?! So if you’re about that OEM+ and come across a set of 220Ms for a reasonable price, kudos to you.

The OEM 220M is one of the best-kept secrets on the E9X M3. Forged monoblock from the factory, lighter than the ZCP 359Ms, and they look right at home because well… they are stock. Clean sets seem to range from $2k to $3k ask but BMA European seems to have at least a pair of fronts and one rear. I’ve linked the most expensive one so I think you can get in at under $1k for a set of 4. After you piece together a full set and have these refinished, you’ll likely be in it for less than other auctions. I’ve visited and bought parts from BMA in person before and they are car guys through and through. 100% Feedback, “BID WITH CONFIDENCE” and all that.

And then there’s a full set of restored 220Ms, my friends.

The 21A mesh is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I think this Shining Bronze would be absolutely killer on Alpine White or Interlagos. This 10.5J +22 square is perfect for track duty.

Fitment on point with this set of BBS LMs. If I were not running my track wheels as street wheels I’d be looking at these.

Ok, not a whole wheel at all, but three-piece wheel finds are their own category of eBay find. It’s only two centers, but it seems like a good start if looking to build your own 19” BBS E88s.

There’s something about JDM on Germans. These classic 5-spoke GTs are in a perfect street square fitment. One day I’ll have a white car with blue wheels.
